Tesco Renovation

The other day when I was in Tesco, I have not been there for ages, or so it seems, I was surprised to see that they have removed all the stalls at the ground floor. You know, those stalls at the side of the escalators and those bullock cart stalls.

Tesco management did put up notices that renovation is in progress. However, what is utmost in my mind is that where have these small businesses gone to. What happens to their business when renovation is in progress and that they had to vacate their stalls? Don't tell me that they are not going to do any business for the duration of this renovation?

Who is going to pay for the salary of the staff? Does Tesco compensate these companies for loss of business? Well, there are just so many questions in my head. I am a busybody, right? I seriously am interested to know how a shopping mall manages a situation like this. Can anyone let me know?

As for those of us in the web business, profit margin need to be as high as 300%, most of us do not even make 100% profit, since our layout cost is low.

Many people have the misconception that they would have plenty of free time if they work from home or sell stuff online. They think that money comes by just clicking here and there. Well, that's so not true.

However, I do admit that time s our own and working for ourselves, we have tie flexibility that many people do not have. I have been meaning to get an online university degree not so much because I need it but to prove that I am not as stupid as some people think I am just because I lack paper qualification.

PayPal Notification: Payments and Statements

Today, I received an email from "PayPal" which fell into my Spam folder. Of course I opened it to read but one look I knew that it was a phishing mail. First of all, the email did not address me by name. My email address was also hidden meaning that it was a mass email. And it fell into my Spam folder too.

The email was a notification that said that my credit card has been deducted US$30 for balance owed to PayPal. Well, seriously I do not owe PayPal any money.

However, new PayPal members will surely panic and in that event, click on the two links provided in the email to check their PayPal statement. Of course the links look normal enough until one hovers the cursor over it!

Really, one has to be extra vigilant even doing something as simple as reading an email!

Victoria’s Secret Semi Annual Sale Bras off 25 – 50%

Can somebody let me know when this Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual sale will be over? Seriously, I am getting tired of seeing them lowering their price over and over again while the semi-annual sale is still on-going. This has taught me not to buy any VS as soon as they call a sale.

This model looks like Marisa Miller. I still do not think that she has an outstanding look but look more like an "all American girl". She does have the body, though. Anyway, I am thinking of unsubscribing from the mailing list of Victoria's Secret because I don't like receiving repeats of the same announcement, though presented in a different way.

MIRC, the ICT Resource Centre of MCA, has been rather successful in holding gatherings and meets to empower people with knowledge on how to leverage eBay and other online market places to create a revenue stream working from home and at your own pace.

Are You As Confused As I Am?

I thought I was the only one who could hardly find my way among all the different boards and sub-sections of eBay's community forum. The other day, I read a fellow eBay member complaining that he could not get specific answers each time he needed them unless he looks for Live Support to point out the link to him.

Yes, even veteran members find difficultly navigating the site for SPECIFIC answers when a problem crops up. I could not understand why there must be a place for Announcements, another section for eBay newbies, one for international traders and one for general chatting, got Q & A and for feedback.

Also, I would like to point out that for Malaysian eBay community website, there was this guy who has been featured on the member spotlight for AGES since the day the website of eBay Malaysia has been revamped.

Until today, I cannot understand why there must be so many different boards when one all-in-one forum with specific sections would suffice. As a web user, I don’t ask for much, except that websites be more user-friendly!

Smart Property Investment

It's a ruckus over here at home because the house opposite of mine is undergoing major renovation. You know, the new owner bought the house recently for RM250,000! And it is only a single story corner terrace house!

Do We Still Need A Virtual Office?

Living in my town it is not always that I get to attend exhibitions. Of course, when there is one, I will be there. Spam SMS Text Messages

I received an SMS text message from 32283, an unidentified number informing me that I can now pay for my low Malaysia Airlines flights to international destinations like Brisbane, Perth, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bali, etc. via Maybank2u. I was informed in the message that this promotion ends on 22nd July, 2008. I went to the website of Malaysia Airlines out of curiosity to see what low international fares they have to offer but it looks like they have all been booked already.

I consider text messages like these to be Spam SMS. It was obviously an advertisement but I have no way to know if this message was from Celcom, MAS or Maybank2u.

The other day, my friend was telling me that many companies are compromising out personal particulars by providing data of their customers to another department, or worse, to another company. However, there is nothing we can do.

This may be just a small issue but I sense an increased in such SMSes. Are you getting these as well or is this more rampant for Celcom subscribers?

Phishing Email With "Discover Card"

Today, I received an email from "Discover Card" mentioning that they have updated my email details and that I should verify my email address by clicking on the link in the email. Hmm that certainly is fishy as I do not hold any Discover Card.

So what did I do with it? I hoveed my cursor over the link and sure enough, it leads to a Russian site. Of course I did not click on the link. I was just curious and I think that it's pretty dumb of these phishers to not mask these links and make them look more authentic. Hehe

Still, I wonder how many people have already been duped by such emails. Well, I think they must know already from reading so many unfortunate stories of having their identities stolen, or having their accounts hacked and taken over.

Anyway, I hope that people will be more alert when it comes to receiving email from unverified sources.

I Need To Upgrade My Computer Memory!

I was telling my friend that I don't like logging in to Facebook even though there are many free games to play because the site is so lagging that my browser hangs! I told him that I only access Facebook via my iPhone which is a lot faster. My friend was surprised because he told me that he has three browsers opened with multiple tabs and logged onto Facebook from each browser, since he has multiple Facebook accounts and still could use his computer for other things.

He later told me that perhaps I need to upgrade my computer memory! Now that he told me about it, and I checked, I only have 512MB of memory and running Windows XP. Normally, this is sufficient but then I run really intensive memory hogging applications! No wonder!

But then now that I know the problem, I am so lazy to open up my casing to upgrade memory! I'll wait till something goes wrong that forces me to open it then only upgrade. Haha!

This morning, I had the chance to talk to my friend, Paul, and I asked him why he did not implement information technology to the day to day running of his business.

In a way, I am sometimes glad that I do not own a car. It may be inconvenient sometimes even though I can use the family car because it is unlike OWNING my own car.

However, fuel price just rose by 41% today and that totally freaks me out. There is no point having a car but dare not drive it because of the escalating fuel price! Did you know that since 2004 when we had a change of leadership, our petrol price has already rose almost 100% while diesel rose by an approximately 230%!

And that is not all. Car owners here have to pay road tax and toll fees. Let's not forget about car insurance and maintenance too. And for many of my friends, they have the burden of monthly installments to meet as well.

All these sums will add up and we have to be careful with our expenditure. We were even told to change our lifestyle. Hopefully, things will be better soon!
