I read with dismay that there was a breach in security on NYCSplash.com and LASplash.com that caused members email and passwords exposed on search engines and cached on the internet recently. That is very scary indeed.
One question though. Why did members provide email user ID and password to these two websites?
Although I practically live online, I am never comfortable giving more information than necessary to any given website no mater how secure they claim to be.
Many money making websites require the input of Social Security numbers (SSN) for Americans and can you imagine what would have happened if the information is exposed online like the case above?
In the case above, one could easily have the password changed, but can one change his SSN? I don't think so.
