A few years ago, my father had the occasion to visit Johannesburg on business. He wanted to take me along as it was the school holidays and it is my father's dream to take me to "see the world and experience different cultures".
We went to our local tour company to get a quotation for our trip. Whoa, it cost a small fortune that my father regretfully dropped the idea and left for his South African trip alone.
Back then, there was no easy access to information on the internet and we had to depend on our tour agent but now, we can get all the information we need and compare prices over the internet and grab the best deal which will save us the most money.
Also, now that more and more people are traveling to South Africa since they opened up their country to foreigners, cheap hotels in South Africa are not that rare anymore due to the competition. Can you believe that we can now get a room at a 3-star hotel from ZAR 90.00 only?
It used to be that people who book their vacation late will have to pay a hefty penalty but not anymore. We can even get a good deal if we book it at the last minute. I am always one of those who book my trip late, not because I want to but my company is always reluctant to approve my leave.
The next time my father is required to go to Johannesburg on business, I will surely tag along. My father has brought home plenty of photos of his safari adventures from his previous trip and I can't wait to go on one myself. People who know me know that I am an animal lover but so far I haven't the privilege to observe animals in their natural habitat. That is what I look forward to the most when we are in South Africa next.

I spent 18 months in Johannesburg South Africa in the 1980s. It was a great place then... not so great now, but still beautiful... I still write to friends there.
