Switch Your Old Media With New For Free

I previously wrote about a good way to trade your used media like CDs, DVDs and books. This seems to be the way to go currently. Over the weekend, I heard of the launch of a new website at SwitchPlanet.com which is offering this same service to members. Previously Switch Planet was in beta and only a selected group of people were able to try out the site but now that the site is ready and open, every one can register for a free account.

After registration, members have to create a profile and list out the items that they would like to trade. Navigation of the site is fairly easy once you know where the buttons are. Search the site or check media categories like CDs, DVDs, Games or Books or browse Most Wanted, Most Switched, Most Available or Newest. Under each category, items are listed according to genre so it's fairly easy to zero in to the items that you are looking for.

For each title, you can see the number of copies that are available for switching and the number of people who are looking for it. While it is free to trade off your items, Switch Planet has its own internal currency. Once your item is safely delivered to the member who requested it, your listed price is credited into your account in SwitchBucs.

You can then shop with your SwitchBucs. If you do not have enough SwitchBucs, you can still get what you want by charging your credit card. That means you will be topping up the balance with cash. Still, it would be cheaper than buying the item from the shop.

I am sure that anyone who loves to watch movies, listen to music and read, has lots of used media sitting on the shelves. This is the perfect way exchanged used for newer titles for almost free.
