Phone Call From E*Trade

The other day, I received a phone call from E*trade in Hong Kong informing me that my account is finally opened. If I remember correctly, I applied for it sometime in May or June and I heard from then a month ago asking me if I would still want them to process my application. I said yes, despite knowing that they have amended their policy. Oh well, perhaps I'd purchase some stocks or something.

I guess it's just awful timing on my part to be caught in a policy change. However, until now, I am not sure if the current account holders would still be able to use their accounts like normal or if their accounts will be migrated to the Hong Kong administration.

What I do know is that we, the new account holders, will not be issued with a debit card. So this effectively makes my account redundant. We'll just have to see....

The Hong Kong lady asked me if I wanted the bank account details over the phone, I said I'd rather just wait for the letters to arrive. It's not easy to understand Hong Kong English. I almost told her to speak to me in Cantonese already :-) Anyway, although the account is opened and I would be having my account details next week, I don't feel elated at all. No thanks to the policy change. *sigh*
