I read an article not too long ago that the Boston Zoo has put up an art piece by its resident gorilla for auction on eBay with a starting bid of $1500. This gorilla is not new to selling his art. He previously sold a piece of art privately for $10,000 at the zoo's fundraising event.
It is a great idea that the Boston zoo, which began a painting programme for the gorillas three years ago, is now reaping the fruits of their labour. Since all proceeds from sale of these artworks go towards the zoo, I am sure that the upkeep of the zoo and other animal residents will be well taken care of.
Hopefully, this is just the beginning and that more people would support gorilla art. I think that all zoos around the world should try to implement such a programme so that they can take care of expenses without seeking public donation or asking for funding from the government.
