Will Perfume Bay Get To Keep The "Bay"?

With the launch of the new blog MakesNoScents.com, founder of Perfume Bay, Jacquelyn Tran, is telling her side of the story behind the legal injunction eBay has taken upon Perfume Bay three years ago to remove the word "Bay" from the domain name and company name. This effectively means that should eBay be successful, Jacquelyn Tran might as well be starting an entirely new company.

Of course, Jacquelyn Tran will be doing all she can to keep her company name, a company that she started in 1999. Can you imagine seeing seven years of hard work going down the drain? By the way, Jacquelyn Tran was born in 1977. As someone in the same generation, I respect that she has managed to expand her parents' business and ventured into eCommerce.

This lawsuit reminds me of the case where McDonald's sued a company for using the name "Mc" in their business. Well, Mc or Mac is a very common family name. I think that these companies are rather arrogant to think that they have claims over a word, a very normal English word like "Bay" in this instance.

Well, let's see how this pans out.
