Seniorproofing Your Home

Most of my friends are not aware that as their parents advance in age, they need to make slight changes to the home to make it a better and safer place. Call me paranoid but since the day a friend's mother slipped in the bathroom and died from head concussion, I have been trying to make my home senior-proof.

Living in Malaysia, though, it is easier said than done. Malaysians are still pretty ignorant of the needs of senior citizens. To me, the most dangerous zones of the house for a senior citizen are the bathroom, kitchen and stairs.

But like I said, if you want to get walk in tubs for the bathrooms, you'd be hard pressed to get them here unless you buy them overseas. The best you could do is just place non-slip mats on the bathroom and kitchen floors!
