Economic Stimulus Checks

My sister told me that she has received her economic stimulus check for US$600. My, that is a lot of bonus money, I tell you. Under the Economic Stimulus plan of the government of the United States, 2008 sees 130 million people or households receiving at least US$300 is tax rebates.

For single people like my sister, US$600 is maximum amount. For couples filing jointly, they can receive up to US$1200 per couple and up to US$300 per child. So you can imagine, if you have five children then you can receive US$2700 just by doing NOTHING.

What about the Duggar family? They have 17 children at this time of writing. Does it mean that if they do qualify, they will receive US$6300?

I am not sure if this move could really stimulate the economy because most people I know who qualify for this and received their checks will usually put the money towards their car installment or home mortgage repayment.

I was just telling my sister that if there is such an economy stimulus exercise here in Malaysia, I would, unfortunately, not qualify for it. Heh... and it is not even because I am earning too much!
