Teacher eBayed During Classes

The Telegraph (UK) reported that a 40-year old teacher had spent class hours to surf the internet, visiting sites like eBay, Facebook and Friends Reunited. Not only did she surfed these websites casually, she even listed items on eBay and placed bids on various items as well, asking her colleagues for their opinion on certain purchases. She also used school hours to perform online banking, running up the internet bill of the school.

Sian Mediana has access to a computer in school and spent up to four hours a day using it and not being able to teach. I am sure we all understand how attention grabbing the internet could be. The funny thing was that when she sold at item on eBay and had to ship out her item, she turned her trip to the post office into a class outing for the children.

I guess I will never know how it is to be addicted to the internet like that since I work for myself and have access to the computer and internet 24/7. I wouldn't know how it would be like to not log online for the duration of normal working hours, BUT I could not understand why this lady and the nurse who sold her lingerie on eBay while working her shift at the hospital could not do it at home instead. Maybe they don't have a computer or internet access at home? Why jeopardize their job?

Sian Mediana claims that she doesn't know that she violated school rules but anyone would know that it's against company policy to use the internet for personal reasons, right?
