eBay Removes Botox Adverts

If you have visited eBay lately, I am sure you would have noticed all the adverts on the site. I find it pretty disconcerting that some advertisers are actually competing against legitimate eBay sellers. Also, I hate the fact that right smack on the landing page, most of the featured products are of slimming and dieting solutions. I am sure there are more interesting products on eBay, right?

After a compliant by Which?, a consumer watchdog, on Botox advertisements on eBay, eBay has decided to remove all these Botox ads. After all, it is illegal to advertise Botox because of possible serious side effects. Botox patients should receive proper medical consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon first.

I think that eBay should consider minimizing the text ads that one could find just below the listing of search results. It could be pretty confusing to a potential eBay shopper and it takes business away from Sellers who have paid for the exposure but then when advertising revenue on eBay makes up a chunk of their annual profit, I don’t think they will be doing anything about it anytime soon.
