I read with a little alarm that credit card scam targeting foreigners is on the rise in Roppongi, Japan, a district that foreigners like to patronise for its bars and restaurants. While using credit cards when travelling is most convenient, it's also very susceptible to scams, especially when one is a foreigner and just a visitor to the country for a few days. It's especially bad when one doesn't speak the language hence unable to speak up when one feels that the credit card has been compromised.
I once read that one must always have an eye on the credit card. If the credit card is taken away to be charged, there is a risk already and it has been compromised. Actually, one should have the card cancelled, but in most cases, we do not cancel the card for convenience sake but still, we have to keep a close watch on our credit card statement.
Bars and pubs are especially high risk places because one could be allegedly drunk and wouldn't remember if he had made charges on the credit card.
