Creative Business

A friend, Lily, who was laid off from work earlier this year and still has yet to secure a new job, told me that she plans to set up her own business instead. I guess she has waited too long and has now given up hope searching for a right job given the poor economy currently.

It's a good thing that Lily is a very creative person. She is always busy with a creative project or another, whether it's making costume jewelry or painting or making gifts with air dry clays, decorating them with art glazes.

While I fully support Lily in her home-based business, I suggested that she concentrate on one aspect of art only and not overwhelm potential buyers with too many different art choices. They would only get confused and may end up not buying anything in the end.

I think that since Lily already has a clay potter wheel, she could easily start a pottery business without further investment except for other small, hence cheaper, supplies that she needs.

I also reminded Lily to only use lead-free clay for her projects because people are now very conscious of using non-toxic products around the house. They wouldn’t even mind paying a little more for them!
