PayPal Expands Consumer Protection In Asia Pacific

PayPal has just announced they will expand consumer protection in Asia Pacific, just in time for the holidays where it is expected that more people will be shopping online, using PayPal as a payment mode. Beginning this month (November), online shoppers who shop at one of the 8 million merchants worldwide and pay with PayPal will be protected if the item that they receive is significantly different than described by a merchant.

According to PayPal, there are about 16 million PayPal users in this Asia Pacific region alone and PayPal Plaza features 60 merchants in this region. There has been an increase in shopping activity by Asians over the past five years since the launch of the original PayPal Buyer Protection Policy in June, 2010.

This protection truly builds shopper confidence but at the same time, it could work against sellers as well if they have the bad luck to come across buyers who make use of this loophole in the policy.
