I wrote an email to a staff of my bank account overseas asking for clarification over certain issues with my account. This man gave me a number to the Customer Service Department and said that I could call collect from Malaysia, meaning I do not have to pay any money for my call.
I called up Operator and asked to make a call collect. She said that she could connect for me and will have to bill me MYR5 for connecting to the Call Center and I was like, No way! Give me the number and I will call myself.
For anyone interested in making a call to the call center which is in charge of reverse charge calls, it is 1-800-813-189. This is a toll free number, meaning it's free!
So I called up this Center and got my number connected but the call was declined. I was like,. "WTF?" I thought it's a 24/7 Call Collect Customer Service Line?
I went online and looked for another Call Collect number to another department of the bank. You know, when a corporation is too large, the staff will not even go a little something that is out of their scope. That's why I was directed to the Customer Service Department in the first place.
I took another number off their website and tried to get a reverse charge call. This time, the connection took so long that the operator told me that she can't hold on for too long. Time is money, I guess!
It is not that I can’t afford to make that called out but hey when they say that it is free to call from world, won't I be dumb if I don't take up the offer? Let's see how many times more I can try calling collect before I give up and just dial direct!
