The other day, I submitted an article to Thoof, a newly launched user-generated personalized news portal. I told my friend how much traffic I managed to get from that but he in turn asked me what is the meaning of Thoof? To be frank, I have no idea! However, I previously wrote an article about choose brand names and going for those that are short, easy to remember and easy to pronounce. I guess Thoof has all these elements!
Thoof is not an English word that could be found in the English dictionary but I believe that sooner or later, it will find its place there when more and more people use Thoof like this, for example, "Have you Thoofed?"
There usually is an introductory post on how a name came about but there was no mention at all on the Thoof blog. My guess is that Thoof is a sound effect, like BUZZZZ but the new web 2.0 word is now THOOOFFFFF. No longer BUZZZZ, ok?
Thoof the word does not make sense at all, just like the other unique internet brand names, I think it sounds like a strong wind blowing, the sound of tornado or something equally strong. Well, news is BLOWN our way. And then there's the saying which goes, "What WIND BLEW you here?"
As you know, news come and go like the wind. Yes, I am convinced that's how Thoof got its name.
