It's almost mid-2008 now and I am still waiting for Mobile Number Portability [MNP] to be implemented in Malaysia, as we were promised. I am so looking forward to it because I am dying to change to Maxis from Celcom. I don't know if it would be a wise decision but I do not like the fact that I am forced to use at least RM50 in voice calls every month even when I do not want to call anyone at all.
The problem with Celcom is that they do not allow rollover of monthly balances and it is very costly to let them keep deducting our balances. That's why I end up with a RM200 bill monthly!
With Maxis, they do allow rollover of balance but only up to a certain limit but that is still better than what Celcom has. I also need to change to Maxis mobile internet. I hope to get a decent package. But first... WHEN IS MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY COMING????

Jason,
Thank you very much for the update! I appreciate it very much.
I am in Ipoh and was told that MNP will only arrive in a couple of months' time. SIGH! Can't wait as I am paying way more than I use every month, subscribed to Celcom's C250 postpaid package!
Hey Jason,
My bill is close to RM200 per month including Celcom Broadband Advance which is RM98 per month.
C250 is the package that comes with "free 250 minutes of talk time", where we have to pay RM50 per month even though we don't make outgoing calls. The minutes are not rolled over to the following month too!
I plan to port my number to uMobile. They are using the network of Celcom too. So far, they seem to be the cheapest, but then they could later up their rates and claim that the rates now are just promotional rates.
It happens all the time!
