This afternoon, my brother received a text message on his DiGi mobile number which was written in Malay congratulating him that he won RM15,000 and free credit of RM250. He was told that to claim his prize, he has to call the number provided. That number was an international number, so long that I was lazy to count how many digits it has. Anything from 12 – 16 because of the international and country codes.
While I know that this is a scam, I wonder how they could scam people of cash. Do the victims get sweet-talked so much that they willingly part with money that they will transfer over to the bank accounts of these scammers? If so, these scammers must be pretty powerful in their mind games.
Anyone who had received such an email will become pretty excited because it is RM15000! But then after a while, if the target has read about these cases on the internet or in the newspapers, he or she will know that these are just mobile scam messages.
