Norman Steisel

My friend, Paul, who has lived in New York City for almost two decades and know the city better than he knows his own hometown, Penang, told that New York City is a very vibrant city that never sleeps. Of course, I will put that down to the successes of city officials. As an example, living in the sleepy backwater city of Ipoh, I would say that the city officials have not done their job right because we have so many resources at their disposal.

Paul was telling me about his new adopted city and dropped the name Norman Steisel. I Googled him up to see what he has done to further develop the city, and boy, am I impressed.

Norman Steisel is an executive with vast experience in the private and public sectors. He was with the City Government until 1986 when he moved to join an investment bank. There, he made his mark with a portfolio of more than US$2.0 billion in transactions. For four years from 1990 to 1994, Norman Steisel was also the First Deputy Mayor of New York City.

Mr. Steisel subsequently left the City Government but continues to be active in the corporate world, as a consultant to senior executives and providing management services. He currently holds the position of Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX).
