Of Replicas, Fakes, Alikes, Knock Offs, Faux, Counterfeits

I was a little surprised that there are still so many people selling the above items on Lelong.com.my. I think it is already stated in the terms of use that such items are actually a violation of policy. While Lelong did mention that they have removed countless items from live auction of sale, suspended and even banned accounts of such sellers, the problem is still very rampant.

eBay also forbids the sale of these items. However, unlike Lelong, they are more efficient in clamping down Sellers, to the extent of removing genuine items from sale or auction. I think that they are a little jittery what with the humongous lawsuit from the license holder of these brand name items.

Whatever the case, I do understand that the supply of replicas is a direct result of a huge demand from buyers but I do not understand why such buyers willingly pay a few hundred bucks for a “fake” item. It’s not as if these items are cheap, you know? Granted, they are cheaper but even if an item looks like it, sounds like it, it’s not “IT”!

Hopefully, eBay and Lelong will triumph in their continued effort to weed out the fakes from their marketplace. However, they should do so without inconvenience to genuine sellers.
