A scientist couple in Colorado was able to track down the woman's custom built mountain bike that was stolen from the mount on the roof of her car on eBay after searching for it for weeks.
I wonder why thieves never learn that the first places that a victim of theft will look online are marketplaces like eBay and Craigslist. And when the stole item is rare, custom built or personalized, what chance does the thief have of getting away with it and selling off the item?
In this case, it was a custom built bike. Surely the owner would recognize it, even if it was sold on eBay successfully. The new owner, if confronted, would have to lead to the seller, providing information like bank account details to the police. Isn't that just dumb?
