Calling Your Bank Ahead Of An Overseas Trip

When my friend and I were planning a trip to Singapore, he asked me to make a call to my bank to let them know when I will be in Singapore, for how many days and the possibility that I may use my credit card while in Singapore. I heeded my friend's advice, since it has been a long time since I travelled out of the country and even when I went abroad back then, I used cash because I didn't have a credit card.

I told my friend that with the information that my bank has of my travel plans, they know more about my trip than even my parents do! Calling ahead to inform your credit card issuer is to avoid getting your credit card rejected in a foreign land. So yeah, if you plan to swipe your credit card abnormally than your usual pattern, whether you are going away or making a large purchase, you really should let the issuer know beforehand.
