A reader wrote in to ask me if he would have to sign for receipt of his credit card. if so, it would be inconvenient for him as he would not be home. And in fact, even if there is someone at home, only he can receive the card himself, as the delivery guy would ask for MyKad verification.
Recently, a Singaporean was convicted to four weeks imprisonment for buying a pair of Rolex watches worth SGD12,000 when his neighbour's credit card was mistakenly delivered to him. Instead of reporting the matter, he shopped with the card. How smart.
This man, Fabian Michael Chiu Toh Hui, 48, is unemployed and an undischarged bankrupt. Perhaps he thought that he could buy something really expensive with the credit card and then sells the watches off, pocketing the cash. If only life is this straightforward!
