The banking industry is a really competitive business. I get a call almost every month from my banks trying to sell me one savings or investment product or another. If not, it's one contest or another which makes me deposit more money into my account than intended.
Logging into my Maybank2U account today, I came across an announcement of new bonus Fixed Deposit rates offered by Maybank whereby we will receive 0.25% - 0.38% higher interest rate than Board Rate. Apparently this is a limited time offer and the minimum deposit is RM25,000 of fresh funds.
New Bonus Fixed Deposit Rates
7-Month Tenure - 0.25% + Prevailing Board Rate = 2.35% p.a.
8-Month Tenure - 0.35% + Prevailing Board Rate = 2.45% p.a.
9-Month Tenure - 0.38% + Prevailing Board Rate = 2.48% p.a.
The current prevailing Board Rate for these tenures is only 2.10% p.a. The difference may be slight but of course, the more you deposit, the bigger difference you see. Still, I hope that the Board Rate would go above 3% p.a. soon.
