Crystal Scrabble Set For Charity

How much would you pay for a Scrabble set? How about a CRYSTAL Scrabble set? Hasbro, the owner of Scrabble, has made a one of a kind Scrabble board with handpicked Swarovski crystals to closely match the new colors of Scrabble. Over 30,000 Swarovski crystals are used and this special Scrabble board is said to be valued at $US20,000.

This beautiful board has been made in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Scrabble and is being auctioned off on eBay. Proceeds of the auction go to St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Tennessee, USA, a hospital researching on cancer cure and other severe pediatric illnesses.

With such an expensive Scrabble board, which is made of glass with Swarovski crystals embedded in the squares for letter tiles, I wonder if the new owner would PLAY Scrabble on it, or just use it for display.

Bidding has already exceeded US$3000 at this point of writing. Bidding will close on 30th October, 2008. No doubt, there would be takers even with today's economic climate because it is all for a good cause.
